I first spotted Boris’ Sporty when I turned up to shoot a sand-drag bike a fair while back, and it was still an ongoing project. But being so impressed with what I saw, I wanted to keep track on its progress, because I could see it was going to be another awesome machine from Boris, and also an obvious feature bike.
Boris has many Sporties, along with the previously mentioned sand dragger, a custom made lay down drag bike, an old XR powered road bike, a cool cafe racer, an old school flamed iron-head chopper, a purple Buell, and even a new black XR1200X, each unique to one another. There are some more too, but I just can’t remember them!
This time around, Boris used a Nineties Sporty as a base, or should I say used its frame, because everything has been modified or upgraded so that’s about all that’s left! The fibreglass XLCR style tank and tail piece were all made by Boris, along with the custom made seat, which were all made to the flat track sort of theme. Kyle from Kyles Kustoms did a brilliant job with the airbrushing on all the glass.
Boris chose to power this machine with a Buell Thunder Storm motor as they’re already a good source of strong reliable power, but Boris spiced it up even more, with Mark Hood also helping with further performance work being done to the heads. Ignition is now a Screaming Eagle unit, with a modified CV carby inhaling through a Hi Flo Buell K&N filter. Gases all escape via the dual Storz stainless pipes and lightweight Storz alloy mufflers. Power is transferred to the back wheel via a mostly 98 box using a Barnett clutch and a 520 chain.
Rising Sun gets the nod for supplying the upside down front end, modified again by Boris to fit. It runs twin 4 piston callipers and floating rotors tied up to an alloy mag with a 120 x 17 tyre. On the back Boris fitted a Chromed Centreline style 160 x 17 Harley rim with Custom 4 spot callipers and a Harley rotor.
Knowing of Boris’ awesome riding ability, I can just imagine him rolling up to a fast flat track course with this bike, and doing awesome feet up power sliding, followed by long power wheelies on the straights! Boris has done it again, built yet another awesome, unique, custom bike. Well done once mate!
