Just Add Salt
Years ago on one of my many trips to Queensland I got a call from Stephen Lafferty to drop over and ride his bike. It wasn’t ready for a feature but he’d helped to develop the motor. Now I generally don’t like riding other people’s bikes, but I buckled under and took it out on the road. After I’d let it warm up a little and became a little more familiar with the way it handled, I thought I’d hit it and to say I was amazed is an understatement; the bike just squatted down and went. She was a rigid so the only squatting was from the rear tyre, but Holy Shit this motor was a monster and it would near tear your arms out of their sockets. It was no wonder Stephen had the rear of the seat set up as a bum-stop, definitely coming in handy more than once. Back then he told me he still had plans to further develop the motor and would let us know when it was closer to completion.
Fast forward to the present day and Stephen again contacted Live to Ride to let us know about their latest conquest, the World’s Fastest Trike. Stephen now lives in Deadwood South Dakota and is an integral part of Aces & Eights Racing and it was their Renegade motor that powered the trike to its world record time. Yes folks that’s right, an Aussie designed and built motor is now a world record holder!
